The Nigerian Army (NA) has officially announced the commencement of applications for the Short Service Combatant (SSC) Commission Course 50/2027 (Nigerian Army Short Service 2026).
The recruitment exercise is open to qualified Nigerian civilians and serving military personnel who aspire to become commissioned officers in the Nigerian Army. Successful applicants will undergo intensive military training and, upon successful completion, will be commissioned as second lieutenants.
Areas of Commission
Successful candidates may be commissioned into the following corps:
- Infantry
- Armour
- Artillery
- Engineers
- Signals
- Intelligence Corps
Assignments will depend on the needs of the Nigerian Army and the candidate’s qualifications.
Nigerian Army Short Service Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Nigerian citizen by birth.
- Be between 23 and 28 years old by January 2027.
- Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
- Be recommended by at least two recognized referees.
- Present a letter of attestation from the last educational institution attended.
- Meet the minimum height requirement:
- Male: 1.68 metres
- Female: 1.65 metres
- Have no criminal conviction.
- Possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Lower, or
- An HND with at least Lower Credit from an accredited institution.
- Present a valid Birth Certificate or Age Declaration.
- Present a valid Certificate of State of Origin.
- Possess a valid NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Certificate (where applicable).
- Hold post-secondary qualifications obtained from 2015 onwards.
- Provide valid contact details for parents/guardians and next of kin.
- Have no body tattoos or inscriptions.
- Present original academic certificates from primary to tertiary level.
- Not belong to any cult, secret society, or fraternity.
- Not have been dismissed from any military or paramilitary institution on disciplinary grounds.
Requirements for Serving Military Personnel
Serving personnel must also:
- Have completed at least five (5) years of military service.
- Obtain the required recommendations from their commanding officers.
- Provide sponsorship and service documentation as required by the Nigerian Army.
